REDIMAC

Designed for the treatment of acid solutions containing metal, the REDIMAC method enables capturing pure acid and the metals contained in it as salts from hydrochloric or nitric acid solutions. The process will not generate new waste fractions; instead, up to 100% of the raw materials contained in the solution will be captured.

The method is based on distilling with strong sulphuric acid: acids included in the solution being treated will be evaporated and then condensed back to the liquid form by cooling them. Non-volatile impurities, such as dissolved metals, will remain in the base solution from where they can crystallised and filtered to be recycled. The filtrate is returned to the process.

The method has received a world-wide patent and the most important application is the treatment of acidic etching solutions and tin removal solutions generated when manufacturing circuit boards.

PP Recycling’s pilot plant in Padasjoki has utilised the REDIMAC method mostly in treatment of etching solution containing copper. The end products are pure hydrochloric acid and copper sulphate of a high quality. These are sold in Finland and exported.

The Padasjoki REDIMAC plant will also be used in the treatment of tin stripper and a variety of acid solutions originating in the surface treatment industry, such as pickling baths.
